EPAT aka (radial Shockwave therapy) is an FDA approved device that improves your body’s regenerative potential. It is a safe and non-invasive way to treat chronic pain. Clinical studies have proven it to be safe and effective with virtually no risks, downtime, or side effects. It is a wonderful alternative to expensive shots that don’t really solve the underlying problem. Shots and injections such as cortisone are like putting a bandaid on the issue rather than solving it. They can provide short term relief but can potentially further damage an area that has degenerated due to poor blood flow, tissue injury, overuse or weakness. In addition, it can also be great for people that are thinking about surgery. There are many benefits to EPAT therapy but in this post I want to share my top 3 with you.
1. Reduces or eliminates chronic pain
EPAT has been demonstrated to be over 80% effective with patients reporting to be either pain free or have significant pain reduction after just 4 treatment sessions. Some patients report pain relief after just one or two sessions, but it typically takes around 4 sessions for long term pain relief to begin. In addition, there is very little recovery time. Patients can typically start resuming activities 24 to 48 hours after each treatment session. Check out some case studies for additional proof.
2. Breaks up scar tissue to increase circulation
Long term tendonitis will often cause the tendon to form scar tissue. This can lead to chronic pain, stiffness, and loss of strength. Utilizing EPAT, we can break up that scar tissue and allow the tendon to heal properly. Using pressure waves, EPAT creates micro tears in the affected tissue and surrounding healthy tissue. This not only breaks up the scarred tissue, but also stimulate the bodies natural inflammatory response to jumpstart the healing process.
All of this allows for increased circulation in the targeted area. This is particularly beneficial in areas with poor blood-flow. For this reason, EPAT is helpful in the more distal regions of our extremities such as the feet, elbows, shoulders, and knees. Regions where many people can have poorly oxygenated blood flow and where decreased circulation can significantly slow healing. EPAT therapy allows us to increase the circulation deep in the tissue resulting in more efficient healing.
Utilizing hot packs or other superficial thermo-therapy techniques tend to be largely ineffective for solving the problem. This is because of their inadequate penetration depth. For this reason, they are unable to match EPAT therapy in its ability to improve blood-flow in the desired location. Increased blood flow allows the body to heal properly without scar tissue that causes long term pain or discomfort.
3. Fast Treatment Solution
EPAT therapy is a very quick treatment and involves minimal recovery time. Typically, it only takes about 4 treatment sessions, once per week. Each session is only about 10-15 minutes. For this reason, EAPT therapy is a great non-invasive alternative for people who don’t have the time for weeks of physical therapy. In addition, EPAT is very helpful for people who are considering surgery and cannot afford to be off their feet for multiple months at a time. For a fraction of the price of multiple doctors appointments, deductibles, co-payments, injections, and surgical intervention, EPAT can deliver quick and effective relief!
“My experience is that when you explain the time commitment of multiple PT visits and multiple follow-up office visits, plus the expense in terms of PT, office visits and prescription co-pays, cost of night splints or pneumatic boots, pain of a cortisone injection, loss of mobility related to a pneumatic boot, not to mention potential deductibles, as compared to the cost of 3, 4, 5 or even 6 EPAT treatments, most people see the value.”Norm Wortzman, DPM
